L&T Energy GreenTech Limited (LTEGL) has secured the Indian Oil Corporation Limited’s (IOCL) tender to establish a green hydrogen production facility with a capacity of 10 kilo tonnes per annum (KTPA) at the Panipat refinery petrochemical complex in Haryana. The facility will be developed on a build-own-operate basis. LTEGL won the entire capacity at a rate of Rs 397 per kg. The tender, which also saw participation from ReNew E Fuels and NTPC Renewable Energy Limited, was floated in April 2024.
The project is scheduled for completion within 30 months. Once operational, LTEGL will supply green hydrogen to IOCL under a 25-year supply agreement. The Panipat complex currently has a processing capacity of 15 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA), with plans underway to expand it to 25 MMTPA. This project will reportedly account for half of IOCL’s total green hydrogen capacity.
In March 2025, LTEGL signed a MoU with John Cockerill to explore collaboration in concentrated solar power and thermal energy storage technologies, focusing on manufacturing, component supply, and engineering solutions.
