DVC inks PPAs with SJVN to source hydropower

The Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) has signed power purchase agreements (PPAs) with the SJVN to source hydropower from the latter’s Sunni Dam and Luhri stage-I hydro projects. According to the agreements, DVC will procure hydropower allocated by the Ministry of Power, once the respective SJVN projects are commissioned.

The agreements reportedly aim to strengthen DVC’s transition towards clean energy while ensuring a reliable power supply for consumers in West Bengal and Jharkhand. Moreover, the initiative is aimed at supporting DVC’s commitment to meeting its green energy obligation across its distribution business, covering solar, hydro, and other renewable sources.

In April 2025, DVC issued a tender for a 250 MW/500 MWh battery energy storage system in Maithon, Jharkhand, as part of its Phase I plan to install 500 MW/1,000 MWh across Jharkhand and West Bengal.
