BYD Energy Storage and Saudi Electricity Company have inked 12.5 GWh of grid-scale energy storage project contracts. This new contract along with a previously delivered 2.6 GWh project combines to a total of 15.1 GWh of projects between the two companies. The battery energy storage system (BESS) equipment for the projects will be deployed across five sites in the country.
Furthermore, BYD Energy Storage will supply MC Cube-T ESS that adopt cell-to-system (CTS) super-integrated technology. These installations will integrate into Saudi Arabia’s power transmission network and address challenges posed by the rising number of renewable energy generation systems. Additionally, it will ensure a stable power supply, and meet peak energy demands.
Earlier in October 2024, Hithium Energy Storage Technology Co. and MANAT formed a joint venture to combine Hithium’s expertise in energy storage with MANAT’s local insights to better serve the Saudi Arabian market. The joint venture aims to establish BESS manufacturing facilities in Saudi Arabia, with a targeted annual production capacity of 5 GWh.
