THDC India Limited (THDCIL) has signed a MoU with the Department of Water Resources, Government of Maharashtra for harnessing energy from six pumped storage projects (PSPs) in Maharashtra. The PSPs have a capacity of 6,790 MW and will require an investment of Rs 336 billion.
The objective of the MoU is to help the developers in conducting surveys, investigations, and preparing detailed project reports (DPRs). It will also facilitate the projects to be completed in a timely manner. The state government will help THDC to obtain clearances and approvals in a timely manner.
The six planned projects under the MoU include the Malshej Ghat Pumped Storage Project (700 MW), the Aruna Pumped Storage Project (1,950 MW), the Kharari Pumped Storage Project (1,250 MW), the Humbarli Birmani Pumped Storage Project (1,000 MW), the Aruna Kolamb Pumped Storage Project (1,200 MW), and the Morawadi Majarewadi Pumped Storage Project (690 MW).
In May 2024, THDC India had issued a request for proposals to set up 600 to 2,000 MW on-stream or off-stream pumped storage projects (PSPs). In January 2024, the company had announced a successful launch of its pilot green hydrogen project in accordance with the National Green Hydrogen Mission at its office complex in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand.
