AM Green Ammonia has reached final investment decision (FID) for its green ammonia project in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh. The FID will aid the company in beginning the production of green ammonia. The company has a green ammonia production capacity target of 1 MTPA by 2026 and 5 MTPA by 2030.
The expenditure for the project includes a green hydrogen generation unit, its conversion to green ammonia and other necessary infrastructure. The project will be located in an existing urea plant in Kakinada, procured by the company earlier. The facility will be converted into a green ammonia producing unit and begin production by 2026.
Additionally, AM Green Ammonia has signed a 25-year fixed-price power purchase agreement (PPA) with NTPC. NTPC will supply the company with half of the required renewable energy. The rest of it will be provided by Gentari, a board member of AM Green Ammonia. A large proportion of the green ammonia produced will be exported to Europe. This will help in achieving the green hydrogen goals of both India and Europe.
In July 2024, AM Green signed an MoU with SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL) for a long-term partnership to supply and source 4.5 GW of renewable energy. In June 2024, AM Green secured CertifHy EU RFNBO pre-certification for their green ammonia project in Kakinada.
