Oorja closes $1.5 million pre-series A funding round for farming-as-a-service model

Oorja has closed its $1.5 million pre-series A funding round. Of the total, $1.2 million was raised through equity finance from impact investors including Acumen, elea, Echoing Green Signal Fund, PG Impact, and 1to4 Foundation. The remaining $300,000 was acquired from Swiss Re Foundation through non-dilutive funding.

This funding round was conducted for Oorja’s farming-as-a-service model. It gives small-scale farmers access to year-round irrigation, thus helping increase crop yields and boosting income.

Oorja is a solar irrigation services and agricultural advice provider to small-scale farmers in India. The company also operates and maintains decentralised solar infrastructure at the farm level. They also have a Pay-per-use model to improve access to solar technology for agricultural programmes.
