McDermott to construct green hydrogen and ammonia production plant in Canada

McDermott has secured an Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) agreement from Abraxas Power Corporation for the Exploits Valley Renewable Energy Corporation project situated in Central Newfoundland, Canada.

Furthermore, the commercial green hydrogen and ammonia facility will comprise the development of a wind farm with up to 530 turbines capable of generating 3.5 GW of electricity, along with a 150 MW solar photovoltaic installation. This facility will be able to produce 165 kilotons per annum of hydrogen and 5000 metric tons per day of ammonia.

According to the agreement, McDermott will handle the front-end engineering design (FEED), as well as the planning and execution services for engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC). It will also provide an open book EPC cost estimate for the hydrogen production, ammonia processing, and product storage sections of the project.
