Powergrid Corporation of India Limited (Powergrid) has approved investments worth Rs 6.5 billion for two transmission projects. The board of directors of the company approved a funding of Rs 5.1 billion for the execution of a Phase-III project aimed at upgrading supervisory control and data acquisition systems and energy management systems as part of the unified load dispatch and communication initiative at northern state load dispatch centres. The completion of the project is anticipated by the conclusion of 2025.
Powergrid has also given the green light for an investment of Rs 1.4 billion to enhance a 765/400kV MVA transformer in Bhiwani. This transformer will be disconnected from the transmission system and utilised for the evacuation of renewable energy in Leh (5 GW Leh-Kaithal transmission corridor). The completion of this project is scheduled for May 2025.
In September 2023, Powergrid secured an order to evacuate energy from 20 GW, Phase III, Part C1 renewable energy zones in Rajasthan for the implementation of an inter-state transmission system project.
In August 2023, Powergrid’s board approved an investment proposal of Rs 5.55 billion for an 85 MW solar power project in Nagda, Madhya Pradesh.
