RWE, Osaka Gas, Mitsui bag 684 MW offshore wind project in Japan

RWE Offshore Wind Japan Murakami-Tainai K.K. has been chosen in a consortium together with Mitsui & Co., Ltd. and Osaka Gas to provide a commercial-scale offshore wind project off the coast of the cities of Murakami and Tainai, Niigata Prefecture, Japan. The Japanese government has chosen the consortium to design, build, and manage a fixed-bottom offshore wind farm off Japan’s west coast.

The project’s planned capacity is 684 MW, and it will add significantly to the country’s renewable energy ambitions, as well as its economic growth and environmental sustainability. The project will also help to create local jobs and boost domestic and regional supply networks. Furthermore, the project’s full commissioning is scheduled for June 2029. It is anticipated that the wind farm will have 38 wind turbines.

Earlier this month, RWE inked a partnership agreement with Masdar to jointly develop the UK Dogger Bank South offshore wind projects. The completion of these landmark projects will continue to be led by both partners. The transaction is anticipated to close in the first quarter of 2024, subject to customary clearances. The new alliance was signed in a ceremony held during COP28 in Dubai.
