Aukera achieved financial close for second phase of Romania BESS project

Aukera has reached financial close for the second phase of the Gura Ialomitei battery energy storage system (BESS) in Romania. The second phase of the project received a €48.5 million financing package from the International Finance Corporation. The package comprised €40 million in capex financing and €8.5 million for VAT-related costs.

Furthermore, the financing will support the construction of the remaining 100 MW/200 MWh capacity, completing the 250 MW/500 MWh BESS project. Phase two of the project is expected to commence operations by early 2027. The financing follows the successful completion of the 150 MW/300 MWh first phase of the project, which secured a €60 million debt facility in November 2025 and became operational in June 2026.

In June 2026, Aukera Energy achieved financial close for Project Volt located in La Louvière, Belgium. The project includes a 170 MW/340 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) and is being developed in partnership with Weerts Group. Commercial operations for the project are scheduled to commence in mid-2027. The project was awarded a 15-year contract through Elia’s Y-4 Capacity Remuneration Mechanism auction in November 2025.
