ACCIONA Energía sells a wind and solar portfolio in US and Mexico

ACCIONA Energía has entered into an agreement with Mexico Infrastructure Partners for the sale of a 49 per cent stake in its 1.3 GW solar portfolio in US, along with the complete divestment of two wind projects in Mexico with a combined capacity of 321 MW. The transaction has an equity value of approximately €855 million. As part of the agreement, the company will continue to hold a 51 per cent controlling interest in the US solar assets and will remain responsible for their operation and management.

The US solar portfolio consists of four operational solar projects: the 458 MWp Red Tailed Hawk project and the 316 MWp Fort Bend solar project located in Texas, the 127 MWp High Point solar farm in Illinois, and the 415 MWp Union solar project in Ohio. Additionally, the Mexican wind portfolio includes the El Cortijo wind project and the Santa Cruz wind project situated in the municipality of Reynosa in the state of Tamaulipas, with capacities of 183 MW and 138 MW, respectively.

Furthermore, the transaction is expected to be completed in the first half of 2026, subject to regulatory clearances, the fulfilment of obligations, and the buyer securing financing. Moreover, this agreement forms part of ACCIONA Energía’s ongoing asset rotation strategy. Since July 2024, the company has reached agreements to divest close to 1.7 GW of renewable capacity across Spain, South Africa, Peru, and Costa Rica, with a cumulative transaction value of around €2.4 billion.

Earlier this month, ACCIONA Energía finalised an agreement with Exxaro Resources Limited’s wholly owned subsidiary, Cennergi, to divest its 232 MW stake in two renewable energy assets. The transaction, valued at €255 million, includes two projects: the 138 MW Gouda wind farm and 94 MWp Sishen solar plant, operational since 2015 and 2014, respectively.
