KSERC approves tariff for 125 MW BESS project in Kerala

The Kerala State Electricity Regulatory Commission (KSERC) has approved a tariff of Rs 441,000 per MW per month for Kerala State Electricity Board’s (KSEB) 125 MW/ 500 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) project at the Mylatti substation in Kasargod. The KSERC adopted the discovered tariff quoted by JSW Neo Energy and approved a trading margin of Rs 0.07 per kWh to be paid to the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI).

Furthermore, the KSERC also sanctioned the battery energy storage sale agreement inked between the SECI and KSEB. KSEB had earlier filed two petitions seeking in-principle approval for the project and for adopting the tariff discovered through competitive bidding. It also proposed implementing the project using a tariff-based competitive bidding process, with financial backing from the Ministry of Power under the viability gap funding programme.

Earlier in February 2025, KSERC approved a reduced tariff of Rs 2.44 per kWh offered by the KSEB for the procurement of 110 MW of solar electricity from TP Saurya, a wholly-owned Tata Power subsidiary.
