MECON Limited has issued a tender seeking bidders for use of hydrogen in direct reduced iron (DRI) steel pilot plant, in existing blast furnace and in existing DRI vertical shaft. The bid submission date is July 8, 2024. The tender is open for CPSUs, state-PSUs, private sector companies, state corporations, Indian R&D institutions, research labs, academic institutions, indigenous equipment design and manufacturing companies.
Steel production has immense potential for utilisation of green hydrogen for decarbonisation, and green hydrogen based steel is expected to become increasingly cost-competitive over the next few years. To promote the adoption of green hydrogen in steel sector, the National Green Hydrogen Mission has specific budgetary support to the tune of Rs 4,550 million till 2029-30 for pilot projects in this space. MECON Limited has been engaged by the Ministry of Steel as scheme implementing agency, under the National Green Hydrogen Mission.
