At the High-Level Clearance Authority meeting, the chief minister of Odisha approved 12 project proposals including, apparel and textiles, chemical, green ammonia, green hydrogen, petrochemical downstream, power, renewable energy, and steel with a total investment worth Rs 849.18 billion. These projects will be developed across the state, covering Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Ganjam, Jajpur, Jharsuguda, Kendrapada, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Sambalpur, and Sundargarh districts.
Of the total 12 projects, the state government granted approval to plans of Welspun New Energy Limited and Sembcorp Green Hydrogen India to set up a green ammonia manufacturing unit to produce 0.70 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA) and 0.72 MMTPA in Kendrapada and Ganjam district, involving an investment of Rs 138.6 billion and Rs 130 billion, respectively.
Moreover, ReNew E-Fuels Private Limited (REFPL) has received approval to set up 100 kilo tonnes per annumn (KTPA) green hydrogen and 500 KTPA green methanol production facility at an investment of Rs 100.05 billion in Malkangiri district. REFPL also got approval for creation of 60 KTPA green hydrogen and 300 KTPA green methanol production unit at an investment of Rs 90 billion in Rayagada district.
In August 2023, a land agreement was signed by the Acme Group with Tata Steel Special Economic Zone Limited for developing green hydrogen and green ammonia project on 343 acres of land to be implemented at the Gopalpur Industrial Park in Ganjam district of Odisha.
