GGGI and EESL collaborate to execute ALCBT project

Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), in partnership with the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), has introduced the Asia Low Carbon Buildings Transition (ALCBT) project in India. This strategic effort seeks to address increase in peak electricity demand in building sector across the nation, driven primarily by the rising demand for cooling solutions.

As a part of the International Climate Initiative, the project is being funded by the German government, through its Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action. The project will be executed in three Indian states. One crucial aspect of implementing the ALCBT project involves evaluating 200 new and 200 old buildings in Kerala, 200 new and 400 old buildings in Haryana, and 200 new and 400 old buildings in Uttar Pradesh. Moreover, each of the three states will witness the installation of 20 retrofits for energy-efficient cooling. The Haryana Renewable Energy Development Agency, the Department of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, and the Energy Management Center are actively assisting the execution of this project in their respective regions.

Within the scope of the project, EESL will conduct training sessions for around 600 professionals and individuals, focusing on the utilisation of low-carbon tools and building energy efficiency. The project also promotes the use of bulk procurement strategies in two additional countries, encouraging the worldwide adoption of sustainable building practices. Additionally, EESL will take on a crucial role in supervising pilot demonstrations centered on sustainable cooling systems. These demonstrations will take place in 60 buildings within India and 40 buildings in two other countries. The main goal is to demonstrate the effectiveness of bulk procurement and demand aggregation, with a combined target of 100 buildings. The successes and lessons learned from this research will be applied to other states for replication.
