Lithium reserves reported in Rajasthan

Rajasthan government officials announced the discovery of lithium in the state. The lithium reserves are said to be larger than the recently discovered quantities in Jammu and Kashmir. The lithium reserves discovered in Rajasthan can be located in the Renvat hill of Degana and the surrounding area. The Geological Survey of India (GSI) is yet to confirm the presence of lithium and other associated rare metals mineralisation in the said region.

In February 2023, the Indian government disclosed discovery of an untapped 5.9 million-ton stockpile of lithium reserves in Jammu and Kashmir. In December 2023, the Government of India plans to auction the 5.9 million tonnes of lithium deposits discovered in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi area.
