“I believe in ownership and authenticity – to own your life, take charge of your choices and write your own story. I want my team to feel the same freedom and responsibility to create impact in their own way. I also believe in leading by example. If I expect accountability, clarity and empathy, I must practice them first,” says Aarti Laxmanan.
With over 25 years of experience across corporate communication and business journalism, Laxmanan’s career has been a mix of storytelling, strategy, learning and connecting people to the larger vision of the organisation. She began her career in broadcast journalism with CNBC India (erstwhile CNBC TV18) and NDTV Profit.
An economics graduate from Hansraj College and a postgraduate in public relations and advertising from Bhartiya Vidya Bhawan, she later transitioned into corporate communications, working with NDTV, UFlex, and now with the Vedanta Group.
The most exciting part of Laxmanan’s current role is the opportunity to shape Vedanta’s leadership narrative in India’s evolving energy landscape. “At a time when the world is focused on clean energy transition, highlighting the indispensable role of thermal power in ensuring energy security, grid stability and 24×7 power for India’s growing economy is both a challenge and an opportunity,” she says.
Equally exciting for her is the communication journey towards the awaited demerger, establishing a strong and clear identity for Vedanta Power as a responsible force driving a balanced and resilient energy future.
“As a working mom, I treasure time with my daughters, family and close friends. I also enjoy home styling – creating warm, inviting spaces is my little creative outlet outside work,” she says.
Laxmanan’s future goal professionally is to shape communication that drives purpose and perception, thus helping people see the true value and impact of the brand she represents. She is also keen to mentor young communicators, helping them discover their own voice in this dynamic field, while continuing to learn and upskill herself as the communication landscape evolves.
“On a personal front, I am deeply drawn to causes supporting children and the elderly, the two pillars of our society who deserve more time, dignity, care and connection. Creating meaningful change in their lives is something I hope to pursue more actively,” she says.
