ESB and EDF’s Neart na Gaoithe offshore wind farm commences operation in Scotland

Scotland’s Neart na Gaoithe (NnG) offshore wind farm, co-owned by EDF power solutions UK and Ireland (EDF) and ESB, has become fully operational. Located 15.5 km off the coast of Fife, the wind farm has 54 wind turbines now generating up to 450 MW of clean and green electricity.

The electricity generated from the project will be sufficient to power around 375,000 homes, and will offset over 400,000 tonnes of carbon emissions each year. Furthermore, it has directly contributed around €200 million to the economy by engaging in work with local supply chains, including over 50 suppliers based in and around Scotland during its construction.

Earlier in June 2025, ESB partnered with DP Energy for the development of the Lyra wind farm in Co Mayo. The wind farm has the potential to generate up to 100 MW of clean power. The energy generated from the project will be sufficient to power approximately 70,000 homes, farms, and businesses on an annual basis.
