OCI Energy, CPS Energy, and LG Energy Solution Vertech, which is the US energy storage division of LG Energy Solutions, have inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the Alamo City battery energy storage system (BESS) project. The project has a capacity of 120 MW/480 MWh and is currently under development in Bexar County, Texas.
OCI Energy is the project developer. Under the MoU, LG Energy Solution Vertech will provide the BESS and energy management technology to OCI Energy. CPS Energy is the off-taker of the project and will commit to purchasing energy storage capacity through an agreement to be negotiated with OCI Energy.
OCI Energy will be responsible for the development, financing, construction, operation, maintenance, and ownership of the project. The project is expected to reach commercial operation in 2027.
In February 2025, OCI Energy and Arava Power formed a joint venture to develop a 260 MWac solar farm. This project is called SunRoper and is situated in Wharton County, Texas. The project will provide clean energy to a region with one of the highest electricity demands in Texas and US.
