GRIDCO issues tender for 500 MW storage

Grid Corporation of Odisha (GRIDCO) has issued a request for proposals for 500 MW/ 2,500 MWh of energy storage, providing five hours of daily peak power assistance, over a five-year term commencing on April 1, 2026. The energy storage system (ESS), which is adaptable to various technologies, needs to be linked to either the central or state transmission network.

According to the tender guidelines, the bidders are required to submit Rs 200,000 per MW as an earnest money deposit. Before signing the energy storage purchase agreement, the developer is required to furnish Rs 1 million per MW as a performance bank guarantee.  The bidders must propose a minimum capacity of 250 MWh (50 MW x 5 hours), with a maximum limit set at 1,250 MWh (250 MW x 5 hours). The deadline for bid submission is April 23, 2024.

Only commercially proven and functioning ESS technologies will be eligible. During the five-hour peak period, the projects must guarantee a minimum monthly availability of 95 per cent and execute one full charge-discharge cycle per day, with a maximum recovery time of 1 hour between cycles. The bidders from nations that share a land border with India must be registered with the appropriate authority according to government regulations. GRIDCO retains the authority to accept or decline any or all bids without providing reasons.

In December 2023, GRIDCO issued tender for delivering power from 500 MW solar projects with an additional greenshoe option, which will be determined by GRIDCO only.
