Statkraft procures planning consent for Energy Isles wind farm in Shetland

Statkraft, a Norwegian renewable energy generator, has obtained planning allowance from the Scottish Government to construct  126 MW Energy Isles wind farm in Yell, Shetland. Furthermore, 18 turbines each with a 7 MW producing capacity, will power the project. It will generate enough electricity yearly to serve the demands of 157,000 houses.

Reportedly, construction of the project is scheduled to commence in 2025. Additionally, the wind farm will generate investment of  £17.3 million in Shetland during the planning and construction phases and contribute £18.9 million to the local economy. The wind farm will make a significant contribution to Shetland’s electricity decarbonisation.

In September 2023, Statkraft bought a wind farm portfolio from Breeze Two Energy, which consists of 39 wind farms with a total power-generating capacity of 337 MW, for $443 million. The acquisition has broadened Statkraft’s growing portfolio of wind farms, which now includes 35 farms in Germany and four in France.
