Siemens Energy and HSM Offshore Energy have been chosen by the German energy company RWE as the preferred suppliers for the electrical transmission system for the 1 GW Thor offshore wind project in Denmark. The onshore high-voltage substation’s design, construction, and installation have been awarded to Siemens Energy as the preferred vendor. From its Offshore Centre of Competence in Ballerup, Denmark, it will carry out the tasks. The construction work is anticipated to begin early in 2023 by Siemens Energy. The company intends to partner with the Danish business MT Hjgaard Danmark to complete civil engineering and construction projects.
The offshore high-voltage substation and its jacket foundation’s engineering, procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning (EPCIC) will be managed by HSM Offshore Energy. The substation installation is anticipated to commence in 2025, and the jacket foundation will be erected at water depths of up to 27 m. In 2026, the offshore substation is scheduled to be tested and put into operation. With both providers, RWE has early works contracts in place for these works. The corresponding grid connection contract has also been signed by the companies. The Thor offshore wind project is expected to be operational by 2027.
Recently, RWE submitted a bid for a 1.5 GW offshore wind seabed permit in the Polish Baltic Sea’s 53.E1 area. The Freeboard I offshore wind farm would be situated 75 km from Ustka’s coast.
