Supreme Court’s order on extension of REC expiry deadline

The Supreme Court has extended the validity of solar and non-solar renewable energy certificates (RECs) that were due to expire between April 1, 2017 and March 31, 2018, up to March 31, 2018. The move came after the Supreme Court’s July 2017 order, permitting the trading of non-solar RECs even though there was a stay on the trading of solar RECs until the issue regarding lower floor prices gets resolved. According to the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission, around 352,814 solar and 913,171 non-solar RECs are expected to expire by March 31, 2018.
