Colombia launches CfP for pilot-testing of hydrogen technologies

The Ministry of Mines and Energy of the Government of Colombia has launched a nationwide call for proposals (CfPs) to support pilot-scale testing of low-emission hydrogen technologies across the country. The initiative aims to identify, assess, and implement hydrogen technologies in real operational conditions, with a focus on mobility, industry, and energy generation. Applications are open for 20 calendar days from December 23, 2025.

The CfP is open to academia, research groups, public and private companies, social organisations, innovation centres, technology developers, and specialised workshops. Proposals may include new, adapted, or experimental technologies that demonstrate the use of low-emission hydrogen in diverse territorial contexts. Moreover, the outcomes are expected to provide technical inputs for future regulatory design, public policy formulation, and decisions related to scaling up hydrogen deployment.

The CfP focuses on six strategic application areas. These include the integration of hydrogen into mobility systems such as taxis, buses, freight transport, and maritime, river, and air transport, as well as household uses including cooking stoves and water heating. Additionally, it will also cover energy-intensive industrial processes and power generation projects, particularly for non-interconnected zones. Furthermore, the scope covers hydrogen production technologies and derivatives, their integration into hybrid systems, and the development of infrastructure for transport, storage, and refuelling, all with the aim of building a comprehensive assessment of hydrogen’s role in Colombia’s energy system.
