ArcelorMittal to develop 1 GW renewable energy projects in India

ArcelorMittal has announced plans to develop renewable energy projects with a total capacity of 1 GW in India. The proposed portfolio includes a 36 MW solar project in Amaravati, Maharashtra, which is expected to be completed in the first half of 2027.

The other projects are a 400 MW solar power plant with a 500 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in Bikaner, Rajasthan, and a renewable project comprising 250 MW of wind capacity, 300 MW of solar capacity with a 300 MWh BESS in Bachau, Gujarat. Additionally, both these projects are expected to be completed in the first half of 2028. 

Furthermore, the projects represent an investment of $900 million. The power generated from the projects will be supplied to AM/NS India, which is a joint venture between ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel.
