Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI) has issued a tender for the development of 1.95 MW of solar projects with 2.15 MWh of battery energy storage systems. The projects will be developed on four islands in Lakshadweep which are Agatti, Kavaratti, BangaRam, and Thinnakara. The entire project will be allocated to a single bidder based on the price bid for the cumulative capacity. The scope of work for this tender includes the design, engineering, supply, construction, erection, testing, and commissioning of the project. The selected developers will also be responsible for the operations and maintenance of the projects for ten years. The last date for the submission of bids for this tender is November 8, 2019.
With increasing renewable energy penetration across the world, questions are being raised on the ability of renewables to replace conventional sources of energy for the generation of baseload power. To address these concerns, energy storage technologies have come to the fore. In India as well various new tenders are being floated for the development of renewable energy projects with battery storage. In fact, islands have a greater need for battery storage systems due to lack of connectivity with the grid.
