ITM Power’s subsidiary, Hydropulse, has signed heads of terms with a European oil refinery for a 150 MW green hydrogen project. The project will use ITM Power’s Alpha electrolyser platform to produce green hydrogen at the refinery under a 10-year agreement. The two parties are already carrying out a joint front-end engineering design study.
The project is targeting a final investment decision in 2027, with hydrogen production expected to begin in 2029. Hydropulse plans to build, own, and operate the project, while the refinery is expected to provide the site and utilities, including power.
Earlier, in April 2026, ITM Power secured £40 million in funding from Great British Energy and £46.5 million from the UK government to scale its green hydrogen operations. This investment will establish a new 1 GW automated manufacturing line in the UK dedicated to the next-generation Chronos electrolyser stack.
