Metacon’s fully owned Greek subsidiary, Metacon SA, has received EU funding for its participation in the PUREHY2+ project. The project aims to develop an integrated system that will allow biogas producers to produce high-purity hydrogen while capturing carbon dioxide on site. The total project budget is €1.63 million, and it will run for 36 months.
Metacon’s share of the budget is €235,022, of which €188,018, or 80 per cent, is covered by EU funding. The project will build on the completed PUREHY project, under which the consortium developed and evaluated Greece’s first semi-pilot unit for producing and purifying hydrogen from biogas on site. PUREHY2+ will further develop the technology for use with existing biogas infrastructure.
Earlier, in July 2026, Metacon AB secured up to SEK 111 million in Klimatklivet funding to develop a 10 MW green hydrogen electrolysis plant at the Hovgården waste management facility in Uppsala, Sweden, covering 55 per cent of the SEK 202 million project cost. The facility is expected to produce around 1,480 tonnes of green hydrogen annually, supplying industrial users and hydrogen refuelling stations across Central Sweden.
