UltraTech Cement Limited, the cement business of Aditya Birla Group, has reached a decarbonisation milestone, with its integrated cement manufacturing unit, Kukurdih Cement Works in Chhattisgarh, meeting 100 per cent of its electricity requirement through green energy every month since April 2026. The unit, commissioned in 2024, has an installed grey cement capacity of 3.3 million tonnes per annum. It meets its electricity needs through renewable power and waste heat recovery systems (WHRS).
Furthermore, since April 2026, nearly one-third of UltraTech’s 76 manufacturing units in India have reportedly used green energy for more than 50 per cent of their electricity needs. Five units, including Kukurdih, have used more than 95 per cent of green energy.
As of first quarter of 2026-27, UltraTech’s captive green energy capacity stood at 1,897 MW, including 1,463 MW from renewable sources such as solar, wind and hybrid projects, and 434 MW from WHRS. The company has a target of increasing the share of green power in its total power mix to 85 per cent by 2030 and 100 per cent by 2050.
