Arpit Sharma: Chief Executive Officer, Skill Council for Green Jobs

Arpit Sharma is chief executive officer at the Skill Council for Green Jobs (SCGJ). His professional journey has spanned banking, corporate management, renewable energy and, green skills development. This diverse experience has given him a broad understanding of both the business side of emerging sectors and the importance of developing the human capital required to sustain them.

On his journey at SCGJ, Sharma says, “It has provided me with the opportunity to work across the skilling ecosystem, from occupational standards, qualifications and assessments to accreditation, training, industry engagement and partnerships. It has also allowed me to work closely with industry, government institutions, training organisations, academia and other stakeholders to understand evolving workforce requirements and translate them into relevant skilling interventions.

“What excites me most about my role is the opportunity to contribute to a transformation that is much larger than any single organisation or sector. India is undergoing a significant transition towards a cleaner, more resource-efficient and technology-driven economy, and I believe that the success of this transition will depend not only on technology and investment, but equally on whether we have the right people with the right skills to implement and sustain it,” he adds.

Sharma believes leadership is less about giving instructions and more about creating an environment where people understand the purpose of their work, take ownership of their responsibilities and have the confidence to deliver. His leadership approach has evolved considerably over the years, particularly as he has moved from managing functions and teams to leading an organisation.

“Outside work, fitness has been a very important part of my life. I have been working out in the gym for around 15 years, and over this period, developing and maintaining my physique has become much more than a hobby for me. It has taught me the importance of consistency, discipline and patience,” he shares.

Sharma also has a strong passion for scuba diving. It gives him an opportunity to completely disconnect from the pace and pressures of professional life and experience a very different environment. He believes that fitness and scuba diving reflect two different aspects of his personality. The gym gives him discipline and routine, while diving gives him a sense of adventure, exploration and curiosity. Together, they help him maintain a balance outside work and return to professional responsibilities with greater energy and perspective.
