NTPC Limited has terminated the contract awarded to GR Infraprojects Limited (GRIL) for a 400 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) project at Mouda Super Thermal Power Station in Maharashtra. The contract, awarded in March 2026 at a total value of Rs 4.13 billion, was scheduled for completion within 15 months.
According to the official release, the project faced delays in critical activities, and GRIL failed to achieve the required progress despite a contractual notice from NTPC seeking corrective action. NTPC has terminated the contract and encashed securities of approximately Rs 910 million in accordance with the contractual provisions. Additionally, NTPC has initiated the process to re-tender the project at GRIL’s risk and cost. NTPC is taking steps to facilitate the early re-award and implementation of the project.
Earlier this month, NTPC Renewable Energy Limited invited bids for the supply and installation of wind turbine generators for an interstate transmission system-connected wind project with a nominal capacity of 600 MW. The project is located in Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh, and will comprise 200 WTGs.
