Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has announced the results of its 2,000 MW/4,000 MWh standalone battery energy storage system (BESS) tender with viability gap funding (VGF) support. The tender was floated in July 2026.
Oriana Power Limited has been awarded a cumulative BESS capacity of 900 MW/1,800 MWh. The company received 400 MW/800 MWh at a tariff of Rs 240,000 per MW per month and 500 MW/1,000 MWh at Rs 238,000 per MW per month. The two awards have an estimated aggregate consideration of about Rs 38.7 billion with an expected VGF of Rs 3.24 billion. Furthermore, GK Energy won 150 MW/300 MWh of BESS at a tariff of Rs 238,000 per MW per month. The award is expected to generate annual revenue of Rs 428.4 million.
According to the tender guidelines, the scope of work includes setting up the BESS across multiple MSEDCL, Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company Limited, and central transmission utility substations. The selected developers will provide on-demand energy storage capacity to MSEDCL, which will have the contractual right to utilise the systems for at least 6,300 cycles during the contract period without any additional cost.
