CMB.TECH Namibia has commissioned a fully integrated green hydrogen facility in Walvis Bay, Africa. The facility features a 5 MWp solar park supplying a 5 MW proton exchange membrane electrolyser. The facility also includes a 5.9 MWh battery energy storage system.
Furthermore, the green hydrogen will initially power dual-fuel trucks, generators and Namibia’s hydrogen-powered freight locomotive. In future, the facility could also enable future maritime decarbonisation through green ammonia production for ship refuelling. CMB.TECH also plans to expand the solar park from 5 MWp to 250 MW and eventually to 500 MW capacity.
In June 2026, CMB.TECH and Fortescue signed an agreement to charter up to 12 ammonia-capable Newcastlemax vessels from Bocimar. The fleet comprises 12 vessels of 210,000 dwt each, with up to three featuring dual-fuel ammonia engines and entering service by end-2026. The remaining nine vessels will be delivered ammonia-ready, allowing future conversion to ammonia operation.
