The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has advised renewable energy implementing agencies (REIAs) and state/UT authorities to consider granting timeline extensions to renewable energy projects affected by disruptions arising from the West Asia situation. The advisory follows representations from renewable power developers seeking relief for project implementation delays.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Finance has clarified that the West Asia situation should be treated as war, which is generally covered as a force majeure event under power purchase agreements (PPAs). Accordingly, relief will be considered in line with the relevant force majeure provisions and procedures specified in the PPAs.
Moreover, the MNRE has advised REIAs, including Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited, NTPC Limited, NHPC Limited and SJVN Limited, as well as concerned renewable power procuring agencies and state/UT entities, to consider extensions of up to four months in the scheduled commencement of supply date or scheduled commissioning date for eligible renewable projects whose scheduled or extended dates fall on or after February 28, 2026.
