In his current role as chief operating officer at REnergy Dynamics, Shashank Adlakha is focused on building an integrated biofuel platform. He believes compressed biogas (CBG) can contribute to energy security, waste utilisation, rural income generation and emissions reduction. His work involves integrating technology, project execution, feedstock management, operations and commercial strategy to create scalable and reliable projects.
“The industry is adopting wet digestion, plug-flow, dry digestion and multistage systems based on feedstock characteristics. Multi-feedstock plants are also becoming increasingly important. Improvements in preprocessing, mixing, biological monitoring and automated feeding are helping enhance gas yields and process stability. For purification, membrane separation, pressure swing adsorption, water scrubbing and chemical scrubbing remain the main pathways. The sector is now moving towards greater automation, real-time monitoring, predictive maintenance and data-led optimisation to improve availability and reduce operating costs,” says Adlakha. Looking ahead, his priority is to develop technically efficient, commercially bankable and operationally sustainable CBG projects.
For over three decades he has worked across supply chains, project planning, engineering, procurement and construction, business development and operations. His previous roles included leadership positions at Moser Baer, Genpact, ReNew and Hygenco. In addition, he has contributed to the execution of over 2 GW of renewable energy projects and India’s first commercial green hydrogen project.
Adlakha’s leadership approach is based on accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement. He believes people perform best when they have clear objectives, appropriate resources and the autonomy to make informed decisions. He encourages cross-functional planning, transparent communication and data-based reviews. Adlakha holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering from the Delhi College of Engineering and an MBA in operations and finance from the Management Development Institute, Gurgaon. Outside work, he enjoys wildlife photography, which allows him to spend time in nature while developing patience, observation and attention to detail. He finds it both relaxing and creatively fulfilling.
