Cubico Sustainable Investments has signed a joint venture (JV) agreement with Mexico’s Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) to develop 578 MWac of renewable energy projects across Mexico. The agreement includes five clean energy projects awarded to Cubico under CFE’s Mixed Investment Scheme, along with 175.7 MW/500 MWh of 3-hour duration battery energy storage.
The projects will be developed across Tamaulipas, Nuevo León, Campeche, and the Yucatán Peninsula. The projects are expected to close nearly $1 billion in new energy infrastructure investment under a 25-year agreement framework. The first project (Altamira Solar), located in Tamaulipas is expected to commence in December 2026, while the remaining four projects are scheduled to break ground in the second quarter of 2027.
In May 2026, Cubico secured key permitting approvals for over 280 MW of solar and wind projects. The approvals include multiple environmental impact assessments (EIAs) for six projects and single authorisation approvals for two additional projects. These approvals were achieved during the latter part of 2025 and into the first quarter of 2026. The approved projects are located across Sicily, Basilicata, and Lazio, all in Italy.
