JERA and Samsung C&T partner on hydrogen and ammonia supply chains

JERA Co., Inc. has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Samsung C&T Corporation to explore collaboration on strengthening hydrogen and ammonia value chains and enhancing supply security across Japan and South Korea. Under the agreement, both the companies will assess ways to improve operational flexibility, including the management and segregation of carbon intensity attributes within storage infrastructure.

Furthermore, JERA is developing Japan’s first integrated low-carbon ammonia value chain, covering production, transportation, and utilization, with operations targeted to commence around fiscal year 2029. Samsung C&T is also advancing low-carbon ammonia infrastructure and supply chain projects in South Korea. The partnership will support JERA’s Zero Carbon Emissions 2050 initiative to achieve net-zero emissions across its global operations by 2050.

In March 2026, Samsung C&T’s Engineering & Construction (E&C) Group completed an off-grid green hydrogen production facility in Gimcheon, South Korea. The plant generates green hydrogen using entirely renewable energy sourced from an 8.3 MW solar power installation. With a 10 MW water electrolysis system, the facility is capable of producing around 0.6 tonnes of green hydrogen per day, translating to over 230 tonnes annually.
