Ambuja Cements, the cement and building materials company of the Adani Group, has partnered with Leilac Limited for the development of a commercial-scale pathway for low-carbon cement production at Ambuja Cements’ 6.6 million tonnes per annum Sanghi plant in Sanghipuram, Kutch.
The plant will assess the integration of Leilac’s carbon capture technology with hybrid electric heating to enable lower-emission cement production. It aims to increase the use of renewable electricity while capturing unavoidable process-related carbon emissions. If the commercial demonstration project is successful, it could be expanded by seven to eight times and capture more than one million tonnes of carbon every year.
Furthermore, this partnership represents a major step in Ambuja Cement’s wider decarbonisation efforts and reinforces its science-based targets initiative’s validated commitment to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.
