Neoen secures 1,600 MWh BESS contract in Ontario

Neoen has been awarded a 20-year capacity services contract from the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) for a 200 MW/1,600 MWh battery energy storage (BESS) project in Ontario. The project was awarded through Ontario’s Long-Term 2 Capacity Services procurement process. The project will provide 190 MW of capacity services over an eight-hour duration.

Furthermore, project construction is expected to commence in 2028, with commercial operations targeted for 2030. The project will be jointly owned by Neoen and Eagle Lake First Nation through a 50-50 equity partnership. With this addition, Neoen’s secured project pipeline in Ontario increases to 918 MW and reaches 1,168 MW across Canada.

In April 2026, Neoen secured two 20-year contracts from the IESO for two new solar farms of 318 MWp combined capacity in Ontario. The contracts cover 100 per cent of the new plants’ output. The projects include a 253 MWp solar farm near Dunns Valley and a 65 MWp solar farm near Paradis Bay. The combined generation from these projects is expected to reach approximately 475 GWh on an annual basis, powering over 50,000 homes in Ontario.
