I Squared Capital and GS E&C to develop 1.5 GW renewables in South Korea

I Squared Capital and GS E&C have signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a joint venture (JV) focused on developing solar and battery energy storage projects in South Korea. The partnership aims to secure and develop 1.5 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2035, including approximately 820 MW of solar projects. The collaboration aligns with South Korea’s energy transition goals as it targets renewable energy sources to contribute at least 20 percent of total electricity generation by 2030.

In April 2026, I Squared Capital acquired Oriden, a US based renewable energy developer, from Mitsubishi Power Americas through its Energy Transition Fund. Oriden has built a renewable energy development pipeline exceeding 5 GW, comprising solar PV and battery energy storage projects primarily across the MISO and PJM markets. Following the acquisition, I Squared plans to invest approximately $300 million to accelerate Oriden’s growth.

In January 2026, I Squared Capital launched ANZA Power, a renewable energy platform for Australia and New Zealand. The platform is backed by a $300 million commitment from its ISQ Growth Markets Infrastructure Fund II. Anza Power, formed through the acquisition of solar hybrid and battery storage projects, includes 80 MW/320 MWh of advanced-stage solar and storage assets and plans to commence construction on an additional 80 MW of renewable projects in 2026.
