N.A.N. GreenMet and Silox Group form JV for battery recycling and critical minerals platform

N.A.N. GreenMet and Silox Specialities India have formed a 50:50 joint venture (JV), NAN Silox GreenMet Private Limited, to establish a lithium-ion battery recycling and critical minerals recovery platform in Andhra Pradesh. The venture aims to address the growing volume of end-of-life batteries from electric vehicles, electronics, and energy storage systems while strengthening the domestic and circular supply of critical raw materials.

The JV will develop and operate a battery recycling facility capable of processing spent batteries through shredding, beneficiation, and hydrometallurgical refining to recover strategic materials such as lithium, cobalt, nickel, and manganese. The project will be developed in two phases, targeting a total capacity of up to 40,000 tonnes per annum (TPA) of shredding and 20,000 TPA of hydrometallurgical processing.

Furthermore, the JV will also explore downstream value creation opportunities, including cathode active materials and second-life battery applications for stationary energy storage systems. The facility’s final outputs will include battery-grade metal salts, as well as precursor cathode active material and cathode active material for electric vehicle cell manufacturers, battery energy storage systems, and grid-scale energy storage applications.
