POWERGRID secures Kakinada green hydrogen transmission project

Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has emerged as the successful bidder under the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) process for the development of the inter-state transmission system (ISTS) associated with the proposed green hydrogen and green ammonia projects in the Kakinada area (Phase I).

Furthermore, the project involves setting up a new 765/400 kV GIS substation along with STATCOM in Andhra Pradesh. It also includes the construction of a 765 kV transmission line. The project will be developed on a build, own, operate, and transfer basis.

In February 2026, POWERGRID’s wholly owned subsidiary, Powergrid Narela Transmission, commissioned an ISTS project in Rajasthan aimed at facilitating the evacuation of 8.1 GW of solar power from the state’s renewable energy zones.
