NTPC floats EPC tenders for 1,090 MW BESS projects

NTPC Renewable Energy Limited (NREL), a wholly owned subsidiary of NTPC Green Energy Limited, has invited bids for three engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) packages for the development of a total of 1,090 MW/4,360 MWh inter-state transmission system (ISTS) connected battery energy storage system (BESS) projects. The projects will be integrated with NREL’s solar power plants.

The tenders include a 300 MW/1,200 MWh BESS project at the NTPC REL Nokhra solar plant, with a bid submission deadline of July 9, 2026. NREL has also invited bids for a 240 MW/960 MWh BESS project at the NTPC REL Devikot solar plant, with a bid submission deadline of July 13, 2026. Additionally, bids have been invited for a 550 MW/2,200 MWh BESS project at the NTPC REL Shimboo Ka Burj solar plant, with bid submission scheduled on July 9, 2026.

According to the tender guidelines, the scope of work includes the design, engineering, supply, transportation, installation, testing, and commissioning of the grid-connected BESS on a turnkey basis. The selected bidders will also be responsible for integrating the storage systems with the solar plants and the grid. The BESS projects must have a design life of 25 years, with batteries rated for at least 10,000 operating cycles. The contracts also include 15 years of comprehensive operation and maintenance, warranty services and performance insurance. The systems are required to maintain a minimum monthly round-trip efficiency of 80 per cent, including auxiliary consumption.
