Sungrow has unveiled a new residential energy storage solution, the MG12RL hybrid inverter, expanding its power range from 5 kW to 12 kW. Engineered for both solar self-consumption and backup power applications, the solution supports a variety of deployment scenarios and enables homeowners to customise their energy management approach based on their requirements. The system is built around the MGRL series hybrid inverter, which can be scaled from 5 kW to 96 kW through parallel operation. It is compatible with multiple battery options, including the MGL060, MBL050, MBL120, and MBL160, supporting storage capacities ranging from 5 kWh to 16 kWh, and expandable up to 320 kWh for larger residential applications.
To improve solar self-consumption and energy efficiency, the storage solution offers up to 200 per cent solar PV oversizing capability and a maximum output capacity of 160 per cent. It supports up to 20A input current and is compatible with most mainstream PV modules, reportedly providing flexibility for both new installations and retrofit projects. Moreover, the system is designed to maintain full power output at ambient temperatures of up to 45°C, and incorporates Sungrow’s PID ZERO technology, which mitigates PID effects without disconnecting from the grid.
For backup power applications, the storage solution can switch to off-grid mode within 4 milliseconds during grid outages, and provides up to 200 per cent overload output for 10 seconds to support the start-up and operation of essential household appliances. It includes a 4.3-inch full-colour touchscreen for local commissioning and can be configured in less than 30 seconds without internet connectivity. It also integrates with the iSolarCloud platform, allowing users to monitor and manage system settings remotely.
