AM Green and VOC Port join forces for green ammonia hub in Tuticorin

AM Green and the V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority (VOCPA) have signed an MoU to jointly develop the VOC port in Tuticorin as a green ammonia production and bunkering hub. The partnership will combine AM Green’s green ammonia production capabilities with VOCPA’s experience in handling liquid ammonia and its role as a designated National Green Hydrogen Hub.

Under the agreement, AM Green and VOCPA plan to develop up to 200 kilo tonnes per annum (KTPA) of green ammonia bunkering capacity at the port by 2029-30, with an estimated investment of Rs 20 billion. Additionally, they will explore pilot bunkering operations and develop the required infrastructure for green ammonia bunkering. The capacity could be expanded to 500 KTPA by 2035, involving a total investment of around Rs 50 billion, subject to market demand.

The MoU also supports AM Green’s plan to establish a 1 million tonnes per annum green ammonia production facility near VOC Port, with an investment of Rs. 150 billion. VOCPA will provide support for the project, while AM Green has already completed a significant portion of the land acquisition for the proposed green hydrogen-ammonia complex.
