Rolls-Royce Power Systems and Sunly have signed agreements to develop four large-scale battery energy storage (BESS) projects in Latvia with a combined capacity of 490 MWh. The first mtu EnergyPack installation in Valmiera is scheduled for commissioning in the first quarter of 2027, with the remaining three projects expected to come online later in 2027. The companies have also signed a memorandum of understanding to expand their collaboration into Estonia through a planned 300 MWh battery storage project in Risti.
In March 2026, Sunly signed a power purchase agreement with Respect Energy for the 60 MW Rzezawa solar park in southern Poland. The agreement covers the sale of 100 percent of the electricity generated by the facility under a “pay as potentially produced” structure. In addition, Respect Energy will provide balancing services, enabling the solar park to participate in the balancing market following technical integration and qualification.
In September 2025, Sunly and Metsagrupp planned to add a 21 MW/45 MWh battery energy storage system to the 45 MW Raba solar park in Põhja-Pärnumaa, Estonia. The BESS addition is scheduled for completion in spring 2026. The solar park has already been operating at full capacity for over a year. At full output, the facility can generate enough electricity to meet the annual consumption needs of approximately 13,000 households.
