ContourGlobal has commenced battery energy storage system (BESS) operations at its Victor Jara hybrid plant located in Tarapacá, Chile. The plant includes a 231 MWp solar PV facility, along with 1.3 GWh BESS. The plant can deliver up to 200 MW of clean energy for 6.5 hours after sunset.
Furthermore, the project is a part of ContourGlobal’s fully operational solar-plus-storage portfolio in Chile, alongside the Quillagua project, which combines 221 MWp of solar PV with 1.2 GWh of storage. The project operates under a 15-year night-only power purchase agreement with Copec EMOAC, supporting ContourGlobal’s “Sun at Night” model.
In January 2026, ContourGlobal commissioned a 202 MW/500 MWh standalone battery energy storage system (BESS) in the Stara Zagora region of Bulgaria. The facility is fully operational and is participating in the country’s day-ahead and intraday electricity markets. Located on a 25,000 square metre site within the Maritsa East 3 coal-fired power plant complex, the project is funded through the European Union’s NextGeneration EU programme.
