Abhinav Agarwal: Chief Financial Officer, Resolven

Abhinav Agarwal is an engineer with an MBA in Finance and has built his career across mergers and acquisitions, fundraising and strategic finance initiatives. Resolven marks his third stint in the renewables sector, and in each role, he has joined companies during their formative years and witnessed their evolution into large GW-scale platforms.

Prior to joining Resolven, he held leadership roles at O2 Power and Hero Future Energies. At O2 Power, his role was heavily transaction-focused, where he led the closure of three acquisitions, one divestment and the eventual sale of the business to JSW Energy. Earlier in his career, he worked extensively on project financing and acquisition transactions for infrastructure projects.

“Unlike traditional finance functions, my role at Resolven is deeply integrated with business strategy. Beyond financial stewardship, my focus includes capital architecture, inorganic growth strategy and partnerships in emerging areas. We are constantly structuring optimal financing models, evaluating the right capital stack and navigating a regulatory environment that is evolving in real time. There is a new problem to solve every week,” he says.

Resolven is pursuing growth through both organic and inorganic strategies. Organically, the company is building its renewable portfolio across utility-scale and commercial and industrial segments, with a focus on disciplined underwriting and levellised cost of energy optimisation. Inorganically, the company is evaluating operating and late-stage development assets where platform synergies can be leveraged. According to him, the carve-out of Zelestra’s India business as Resolven was itself a proof point of this strategy.

With EQT’s backing, his key priorities include establishing institutional-grade reporting systems, maintaining disciplined capital allocation frameworks and building a robust financing profile with diversified lenders and balanced debt structures. At the project level, key metrics include capex, earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation, and internal rate of return, while platform-level focus areas include leverage, debt costs and contracted versus merchant exposure.

Outside of work, Agarwal spends most of his time with family and friends and occasionally plays table tennis. “I do not believe in separating work from leisure entirely, as both can go hand in hand,” he says. Looking ahead, Resolven aims to build a 10 GW clean energy platform by 2030. “Beyond scale, I want Resolven to be recognised as one of India’s most respected and well-governed renewable platforms,” he says.
