Sun Drops Energia Limited, a subsidiary of KPI Green Energy Limited, has signed a battery energy storage purchase agreement (BESPA) with Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) for the development of a standalone battery energy storage system (BESS) project with a capacity of 120 MW/240 MWh in Gujarat. The project has been awarded under GUVNL’s Phase-VIII tariff-based competitive bidding process, supported by viability gap funding through the power system development fund.
Under the agreement, Sun Drops Energia Limited will develop, own, and operate the BESS project near the 220 kV Gariyadhar AIS Substation, with a capacity of 65 MW/130 MWh, and the 220 kV Otha AIS Substation, with a capacity of 55 MW/110 MWh, in Gujarat. The company will provide the contracted storage capacity to GUVNL on a long-term basis. With this agreement, the KPI Green Energy group’s total executed standalone BESS portfolio has reached 565 MW/1,130 MWh.
Earlier in May 2026, KPI Green Energy Limited received notifications of award from NTPC Renewable Energy Limited. The awards were for the balance of system package related to the development of 500 MW grid-connected solar photovoltaic projects at Bikaner, Rajasthan.
