SPML Infra secures Rs 11.28 billion BESS project order from NTPC

SPML Infra Limited has secured a Rs 11.28 billion contract to develop a 1,000 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at NTPC Limited’s Barauni thermal power station in Bihar. The scope of work includes the supply, civil works, and erection of a 250 MW/1,000 MWh BESS. The BESS will consist of 5 MWh DC containers with a battery management system and thermal management system, and also include 33 kV panel boards, 220 kV DC and AC cables, a 220 kV switchyard, and associated accessories.

Furthermore, the project will be completed in over 18 months and will have an operations and maintenance period of  15 years. It will integrate battery storage with the existing thermal power infrastructure for peak load management, grid stability, and renewable energy integration.

Earlier this month, NTPC Renewable Energy Limited (NTPC REL) invited online bids from eligible bidders for the balance of system package for the development of 900 MW of grid-connected solar projects, configured as 1×500 MW and 1×400 MW, at Kurnool in Andhra Pradesh.
